Family Support Program

Since 1996, South Bay Center for Counseling's Family Support Program has developed a strong collaboration with 76 social service agencies and organizations throughout the South Bay to provide supportive services and activities to families throughout Service Planning Area 8. (SPA 8)

Family Support is a community services program built on the principles of family empowerment, a commitment to capacity building for local communities, and the belief that families are better served when they can easily access needed services in their own communities.

Some of the services offered through this program include:

Employment Services

Through our employment services program, we assist families improve their ability to obtain employment to meet their basic needs. The services provided include: remedial education; career and vocational counseling; employment preparation, job training and assistance with finding a job.

Health, Parenting and/or Other Education Programs

We also teach caregivers, parents, pregnant and/or parenting teenagers, parenting skills that will help them successfully nurture their minor children. These programs promote family health with services such as problem solving, communication skills, coping with stress, family literacy, household management/ budgeting, meal planning and food preparation.

Structured Parent-Child and/or Family-Centered Activities

This program helps improve relationships between parents, children, and families. Structured activities such as field trips, family dinners, recreational activities and holiday gatherings are designed to teach families how to spend quality time together, facilitate positive family interactions, as well as how to interact with the community.

Emergency Basic Support Services

Existing Family Support participants will be able to utilize these services to assist with daily life necessities. We offer vouchers to purchase clothing, utilities, food, furniture, household items, school items, transportation services, housing assistance, minor home/car/appliance repair, and gasoline vouchers.

South Bay Center for Counseling provides these services in partnership with Department of Children and Family Services Torrance and Lakewood office, and Casey Family Programs.
